See also the articles about safety in general, for hitting on the buttocks and for face slapping
These schemas are for hitting with very flexible instruments. They are not to be used for paddles, canes and the like, that should only be used on the buttocks or the upper thighs (See Safety : the buttocks). DO NOT HIT ON THE AREAS MARKED IN RED on the pictures. Hit soft, only for the sting on the skin on the rosy ones.
Hitting somebody with a whip is never totally safe, but you can get away with it if you are careful.

| Hitting on the shoulders is dangerous, because there are nerves at the base of the neck, and because you are too near the neck itself, which should never be hit. You risk also hitting the face. If planning to flog hard, maybe you could put a wide collar and a heavy mask, protecting her head and neck. Hitting over the spine is also dangerous, because you could hurt its bones or the nerves that enter it at all heights. When hitting diagonally, let the point spend most of the energy on the shoulder blades, so if the rest of the tail hits over the spine it will be less dangerous. |
On the upper back, hit high, where the internal organs are protected by the ribs, the shoulder blades and lots of muscle.
Below the ribs, on the back of the waist and at the sides of the spine, there are the kidneys. You should never hit over them. You could use for protection a wide belt, as the ones used by workers or weight lifters.
You should be careful when hitting on the sides of the torso, which are not protected enough.
Never hit on the back with rigid or semi rigid instruments.
Under the waist, the buttocks are safe enough. Just be careful for not hitting at the flat surface over the buttocks, because there are the sacrum and the coccyx (the remains of our ancestors' tail) that can be broken. (see Safety, the buttocks).
The safe area includes the upper part of the thighs. Do not wrap the whip or hit on the sides of the buttocks and thighs. They are less protected. On the inner side of the thighs runs the sciatic nerve. Do not hit hard there.
From there down, the legs have less and less protection, so you should not hit hard, because you risk damaging the nerves and tendons there.
Do not hit on the knee joints, of course. There are nerve, tendons, and the bones themselves.
You can hit for the sting on the calves, but nothing hard. And the ankles and heels have again bones, nerves and tendons that should better be left alone.
![]() | Again the shoulders and up are a no hitting area. You have the collarbone, that is easily broken, and very painful, all the piping for breathing and eating and, at the sides of the neck, the arteries the carry blood to the head. All nerves must pass by the neck for connecting the body parts to the brain.
Everything up there should work for a person to live, so don't mess with the area. And, if hitting high, you could hit on the face, another no, no. |
The front, down from the area covered by the ribs, the abdomen is full of delicate internal organs, which are easily damaged. Don’t hit there.
You could hit on the genitals if that excites you, but hit softly and with light instruments. Do not damage the delicate structures inside them.
You can hit harder on the upper front of the thighs (being careful of not hitting the genitals accidentally).
Hit softer from there down, avoiding the knee and ankle joints and the shins (the bones in the front of the lower legs), where hits are painful because they crush the flesh and nerves against the bone that is just under the surface (you can touch it).
The ankles and the upper part of the feet are forbidden areas.
Play if you enjoy it, but keep it Safe, Sane and Consensual and don’t hurt your partner. The thrill of the game is exciting. The thrill of running to a hospital is not.
