Murhga means literally "cock" (or rooster) in Hindi and Urdu.
Murgha or murga is as traditional a punishment in India and Pakistan as kneeling is in the West. It is the most commonly used punishment in schools and at home. And I have seen also photos of adults making murgha in front of soldiers or policemen.
For "making murgha", the punished bends her body forward in a semi-sitting position, with the head down and the buttocks up, the arms passing through the gap between the legs and the hands strictly holding or pulling the ears. The ears should be strongly held between the thumb and the first finger.

The position is uncomfortable from the beginning, but it gets worse with time causing even dizziness. Besides, the humiliation for having to stay in such a position is as important as the discomfort.
Our site is about adult, not children, punishments. We suspect that most of our gentle visitors can't bend enough for holding their ears from inside the legs. If she can't, the nearest position we found is bending with elbows on knees, with the hands crossed at the back of the head.

Just in case, make the punished hold two coins, one pressed with each elbow against its corresponding knee, so she can't move unnoticed.
Or you can use another position, making her hold her ears by passing the arms from the outside around and below the knees.

The head must be held as low and as near to the knees as possible. Enforce it with the cane. (A crop, or any other instrument can do, but the cane is the traditional one).
Or you could make her cross the arms at the back of the knees, holding each elbow with the opposite hand, without holding the ears, and again, with the head down and as near the knees as possible. All the murgha variants can be used in this position.

Finally, you could make her just bend touching her toes or easier, her ankles.

There are several variants of this punishment:

Some other possibilities were devised by schoolteachers:
- For added humiliation, make her cluck or crow during the punishment as the animal she is representing.
- Make the punished walk squatting and holding her ears (also used in Korea). It is easier than the murgha parade. You could make her hold each ear with the opposite hand by crossing the arms in front of the body
- Make her do sit-ups while holding the ears (called Utthak Baithak in India, and also used in Korea).
- Put a book on the floor in front of her, and make her learn a poem by heart during the punishment. When she is ready, make her stand and check her recitation. If she fails, she'll go back to the position for studying again.
-Make her stand on tiptoes the whole punishment time. Check that her heels never touch the floor. (thanks, chuchu)
-Put a solid rubber ball between her buttocks, and make her hold it by clenching her cheeks. If it falls...

Make the punished walk around while in Standing Murgha. It's very difficult but it is fun to see. Just imagine the reaction of the schoolmates when looking at two or three girls parading in a row around the school's courtyard in that position and you'll understand the feelings of the show's unwilling performers. Hold the cane in your hand in order to keep the parade going.
Much of the information on murgha came from TruFalse (falsetru@yahoo.co.uk)- Thanks.
